Mary Kom to wave flag at Indian Grand Prix

Current AffirsOlympic bronze medalist boxer MC Mary Kom will wave the chequered flag in the Indian Grand Prix 2013 to be held at the Buddh International Circuit on October 27, 2013.

In the inaugural year of the Indian GP in 2011, legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar waved the flag, while it was London Olympic bronze medalist shooter Gagan Narang last year.

Like the past two years, the organisers are also hoping for a galaxy of stars, including cricketers, Olympians, Bollywood celebrities and politicians to attend the race on Sunday.

Indian Grand Prix:
  • The Indian Grand Prix is a Formula 1 race in the calendar of the FIA Formula One World Championship, currently being held at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida near New Delhi.
  • The first event took place on October 30, 2011, as the 17th race of the 2011 Formula One season.
  • The inaugural race was won by Germany's Sebastian Vettel, who thus far is the only driver ever to win the Indian Grand Prix.
  • Jaypee Sports International Limited is the organizer of Formula 1 race in India and has signed a five-year contract with Formula One Management (FOM) to host the championship in India.
