24 October- United Nations Day

The United Nations Day was observed across the world on 24 October 2013. The UN Day is observed to mark the anniversary of entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. The founding document was ratified on this day by its signatories, including the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. With this, the United Nations came into being officially. 

24 October is celebrated and observed as the UN day since the year 1948. In the year 1971, the UN General Assembly recommended that this day should be observed as the public holiday by the Member States. 

What happens on this day?

• United Nations Day is actually a part of the United Nations Week which is observed from 20 October to 26 October. This day is devoted to the purpose of creating awareness among the people regarding the aim and achievements of the United Nations. 
• Traditionally, on this day, exhibitions, discussions and meetings are being organised across the world. These discussions, exhibitions and meetings revolve around the achievements and goals of the United Nations. 
• Various international schools across the world also observe the United Nations Day by celebrating the diversity of the student body. 
• The celebrations include the shows of cultural performances as well as food fair from across the world.
