7th Pay Commission for central govt employees announced

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh approved the constitution of the 7th Pay Commission on 25th September. The recommendations of the Pay Commission are likely to be implemented with effect from January 1, 2016, considering that it takes around two years for the commission to submit its report and the recommendations to take effect. There are at present around 50 lakh central government employees and 35 lakh pensioners, who stand to benefit from the Pay Commission. The names of the chairperson and members, as well as the terms of reference, of the Pay Commission will be finalized and announced shortly. The recommendations of the previous pay commission had come into effect on January 1, 2006.
