In Assam, the World Heritage Site, Manas National Park will re-open tomorrow for tourists after its annual monsoon closure. The Field Director of the park Anindya Swargiwari said that, all necessary works including repairing of roads have been done for the convenience of the visitors.
Last year more than 16 thousand domestic and foreign tourists visited the park. The Field Director said that emphasize will be given in river rafting in this year and additional boats have been purchased for it.
Situated on the foothills of the Himalayas and extended to Bhutan, Manas National Park is one of the most tourist 'after sought ' destination in entire North-East.
Manas was declared a sanctuary in 1928 and was designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO in the year 1985.But due to poaching and other instability, the park was declared a World Heritage Site in danger in the year 1992.
In 2010, after a period of 19 years, the tag of World Heritage site in danger has been removed from the park by UNESCO.At present Manas is home of One Horned Rhino ,Wild-buffalos, little known White-Winged duck and Manipur bush quail, among others.
