Vocalist Jayashri has been picked for Indira Sivasailam Endowment Medal

Vocalist Bombay Jayashri has been picked for this year's Indira Sivasailam endowment medal and concert. The fourth Indira Sivasailam endowment concert will be held at The Music Academy, Chennai on October 12. The Indira Sivasailam endowment is instituted in memory of Indira Sivasailam. It organises a memorial concert during the Navarathri season every year, recognising an outstanding Carnatic musician with the Indira Sivasailam endowment medal and citation. The artiste is selected by a panel comprising members from the Endowment’s Committee of The Music Academy, and Smt. Mallika Srinivasan (Chairman of TAFE Limited), the daughter of Indira Sivasailam.

Ms. Mallika Srinivasan set up the Indira Sivasailam Endowment Fund in 2010 under the auspices of The Music Academy. Stating that Bombay Jayashri “is the quintessential new generation musician of India,” a release appreciated her efforts to lure school children into learning “our rich tradtional music.” She had also worked in film music, which had helped to draw a new class of listeners into the world of classical music, the release pointed out.
