Raghuram Rajan appointed next RBI Governor

Chief Economic Advisor Raghuram G. Rajan has been appointed as the next Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.Mr. Rajan will replace D. Subbarao, who completes his five-year term on September 4, 2013 and will be the 23rd Governor of the central bank.Mr. Rajan, a former IMF chief economist, was appointed as the Chief Economic Advisor in the Finance Ministry in August last year.Mr. Rajan was also honorary economic advisor to the Prime Minister. He was acclaimed for predicting the 2008 global financial crisis.
RBI was etablished on 1st April 1935 and was nationalised on 1949.
First RBI governor of india was C D Deshmukh.
